Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Definition
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a United States law that establishes different labor regulations that include minimum wages, overtime pay, child labor, and employee record-keeping, and reporting. FLSA is intended to protect and improve the livelihood and welfare of U.S. workers. Its regulations implement minimum wage requirements and limit employee work hours. They address conditions that are linked to employees’ well-being, minimum living standards. and efficiency. FLSA regulations affect part-time and full-time employees in the private sector, as well as those employed by local, state, and federal governments. The Act is administered by the U.S. Dept. of Labor Wage and Hour Division. Special rules may apply to local and state employment with regard to law enforcement activities, fire protection activities, and volunteer services.
