The Social Security Administration, or SSA, is the agency within the federal government that administers the Social Security system.

Social Security benefits are funded through a payroll tax known as Social Security tax. Both employers and employees contribute a Social Security tax rate of 6.2% of an employee’s wages up to the Social Security wage base.
