What is Small Business Saturday®?
Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday sits Small Business Saturday, an event designed to help small businesses and their communities. The intent is that by supporting local, independently-owned small businesses, shop-small customers help create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods around the USA.
Every year there is greater awareness and interest in the annual event, with consumer-reported awareness reaching 67% in 2012. In 2012, “shop small” businesses earned an estimated $5.5 billion on Small Business Saturday. This year, Small Business Saturday is November 30th and even more shoppers are expected to participate.

Consumer incentive from American Express
For the fourth year in a row, American Express is encouraging customers to Shop Small on November 30th by offering Cardmembers a statement credit ($10 in 2013) when they enroll their eligible American Express® card. The online terms and conditions explain that the $10 must be spent in a single in-store transaction at a qualifying small business location on Small Business Saturday. The number of enrollments is limited.
Enrollment opens at 12:00 A.M. MST on November 24th and continues until 11:59 P.M. MST on November 30th unless the enrollment limit is reached sooner. In order to receive the statement credit offer, Cardmembers need to follow the instructions on the website.
