Time Punch Entry Type Settings

As a Time & Attendance customer, you must choose a Time Card Entry Type for each employee:

  • Manual Entry: Employees enter and edit their time manually.
    • Geotagging is not eligible for employees who have “manual” time card entry types.
  • Time Punch: Employees punch in and out using actual time.
    • When employees are designated as time punch they are limited to clicking either “Punch In” or “Punch Out” to record the current time on their time card. Entries are automatically saved.
    • Manual input of in and out times in the cells is not permitted; however, they can still manually add “Other Hours,” such as non-worked hours like vacation time, which must be entered manually.

Employees can record time from their phone or tablet using the My Patriot app, available Apple App Store or Google Play Store. For more details, refer to “Communicating the Mobile App to Employees.” They can also use a web browser, as the time card page adapts to different devices.


Setting Time Punch Entry Type for an Employee

  1. Go to Payroll > Employees > Employee List and select the employee’s name.
  2. Click the Time tab and select Yes for “This employee uses time cards.”
  3. Click Edit next to “Time Cards.”
  4. Select Time Punch for the Time Card Entry Type.
  5. Click Save Employee.

You can also view, add or edit time card settings on the Employee Time Card Settings page for all employees.

When employees log into their employee portal or mobile app, they will see Punch In/Punch Out buttons. Manual entry of in/out times is not allowed, but they can add Other Hours (e.g., vacation) manually.

Making Corrections to Time Punches

Employees cannot edit their punches. If a correction is needed, they must request changes from you or a manager with time card permissions.

Time Zones & Adjustments

  • Employer View: Punched times display in the company’s time zone (Settings > Company Settings > Company Info).
    • Adjustments are made for Daylight Savings Time.
  • Employee View: Employees see their time cards in their own time zone, which can be updated in their employee portal.
