Why Was My Credit Card Charged After I Cancelled?
Quick answer
Patriot usually charges customers on the first of the month for services used in the previous month. You may also still be billed if your software subscription remains active.
Why Did I Receive an Invoice from Patriot?
If you were not expecting an invoice from Patriot on the first of the month, there are usually two reasons:
1. Patriot bills after the service month
Patriot charges in arrears for software services the following month of active service.
- How arrears billing works: On the first of each month, we review your account active service, and the number of employees and contractors paid, if applicable. We then charge the credit card on file on the first of the month.
- Example: A charge on February 1 usually covers services used in January.
- Your invoice may include:
- the number of days your software products were active
- the number of employees paid, if applicable
- direct deposit fees for wire transfers, or instant payments
- amended return fees
This list is not all-inclusive list.
2. Your software subscription is still active
All Patriot software products include a monthly base fee. If your software subscription is still active, you may still be billed even if you did not use the software during the month.
How Do I Check If My Software Is Still Active?
To view your active software subscriptions:
- Go to Settings > Account Settings > Manage Subscriptions > Add or Cancel Software.
