Tracking Veteran Status in Patriot

Background

If your business is a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), you may be required to track and report the veteran status of your employees on form VETS-4212.

For more information, check out our article, “Are You Keeping up With Your VETS Reporting Responsibilities?”

Tracking Veteran Status in Patriot

As an HR customer, you can add the employee’s veteran status at the time you add the employee.  For existing employees, you can also add this information by editing their Employee Info page under the “Demographics” section.   Keep in mind, if your business is not required to report veteran status, you can leave the field blank.

If the employee has registered for their employee portal, they can self-identify their veteran status on their Personal Info page and this will automatically show in their record. Or the employee can self-identify veteran status through a form.  Here is a sample VEVRRA form you can use. Employees are asked, but not required, to indicate whether they are a protected veteran. See this Department of Labor infographic “Am I a Protected Veteran?” for a guide employees can use.

You will be able to run a demographics report that will provide you with the data you need to enter on the VETS-4212 report each year.  Check out our Demographic Report help article for more information.
