How to Set Up MFA in the Employee Portal

Background

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is a powerful tool in safeguarding your online presence.MFA is a security method that requires users to verify their identity in two or more ways before gaining access to an account or system. The goal is to make it harder for attackers to get in…even if they’ve stolen your password.

In your employee portal we’ll ask for two types of verification factors each time you log in:

  1. Something you know: your password
  2. Something you have: a phone, email, or authentication app. (We’ll ask for two methods to deliver your authentication code in case one is inaccessible to you.)

Steps to Set Up MFA in the Employee Portal

Learn how to set up multi-factor authentication in the employee portal to keep you information secure.

  1. Accept the portal invite from your employer.

Your employer or client will send you an invite to your email address. This link invitation will expire in 7 days. You will need to request your employer resend the invitation after that time.

  2. Create your login credentials

You will need to create your username and password. The required password length is ten characters. However, the longer you make your password, the stronger it will be. Your password needs to contain at least one lower case letter, one upper case letter, one number, and one special character.

  3. Select your first multi-factor authentication method

You can choose to receive your MFA code through email, text, or an authentication app. Once you have entered the email address, phone number or authentication app, you’ll receive a code.

  4. Enter the MFA code sent to your first method

Your MFA code will expire in 15 minutes if using text or email. Authentication apps continually cycle through one time passwords. If the code has expired, you can reenter the verification method once again to generate a new code or you can resend the verification code to your method by clicking the “Resend code” link.

  5. Select your second MFA method

It is highly recommended to use a different MFA back up method. For instance, if your first method for MFA was email, use a phone number or authentication app for the second method.

  6. Add the MFA code sent to your second method

Your MFA code will expire in 15 minutes if using text or email. Authentication apps continually cycle through one time passwords.

  7. If using a private computer choose to “Remember this device”

You will be able to choose, “Remember this device for 90 days” to prevent the need to enter an MFA code each time you log in. Do not use this feature if you are on a shared computer.
