For 2014, the ever-growing Shop Small event will be on November 29th. Small Business Saturday started in 2010 with the goal of bringing customers into the doors of local businesses. You have no doubt noticed the year-round trend to promote shopping local which has grown from the first Shop Small day five years ago.
Hoping to surpass last year’s impressive $5.7 billion in sales, more than 2000 Neighborhood Champions are organizing Fun Runs, Pancake Breakfast Kickoffs, and more. American Express (AMEX) has partnered with the Small Business Administration (SBA) and has created the Shop Small website which lists these events … and more!
Small Business Saturday and YOU!
Have you seen the TV commercials promoting Small Business Saturday? Has your community organized an event? For your convenience, here are some ways your business can participate and (hopefully) rake in some of those Shop Small dollars! (… sample ideas from the AMEX website …)
- Use the FREE promotional materials like signage for your windows or sample social media templates.
- Use AMEX’s suggested marketing ideas. For example, you can print a personalized poster for free at FedEx and then post a picture of yourself with the poster on your Facebook page.
- If you accept American Express, your business can appear on the lists and maps of small businesses on the Shop Small site.
- Also, AMEX cardholders can pre-register and get as many as three $10-credits on their statement for their November 29th purchases at one of the listed stores.
- Do you provide a service or online shopping? If you don’t have a bricks-and-mortar store, your small business can still participate in Small Business Saturday.
