Utah employers can have the benefit of online payroll anytime or anywhere with Patriot PAY, the payroll software designed for small business owners. Utah customers can count on accuracy of their payroll tax calculations as well as up-to-date information they need to know:

  • Withholding Requirements -- New Utah employers must register as employer by filing Form 1 (Status Report).
New hires must complete the Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate: Federal W-4.
Employers should add supplemental wages to regular wages, compute tax on the total, and subtract the tax withheld on regular wages.

  • State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) -- The wage base is $28,600, with contribution rates ranging from 0.40% to 9.40%.
Employers can find more information at the Utah Dept. of Workforce Services.
New employers are assigned an SUI rate based on their industry instead of a state standard. For questions, employers should consult the FAQ page at the Dept. of Workforce Services.

  • Utah Labor Laws -- The Utah state minimum wage law does not contain current dollar minimums; the state law authorizes the adoption of the Federal minimum wage rate.
The state law excludes from coverage any employment subject to the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act. Employers can find more information at the U.S. Dept. of Labor.
Employees who are fired should receive their termination pay within 24 hours. If employees quit, they should receive their final payroll on the next regular payday.

  • New Hire Reporting -- Utah strongly encourages electronic reporting of new hires at the Dept. of Workforce Services.

  • Utah Child Support -- Employers should remit child support payroll withholding to:
