- Withholding Requirements -- Maine employers must register as an employer on the Maine.gov website.
Employers can access the Employee's Maine Withholding Allowance Certificate Form W-4ME online.
To pay a Supplemental Rate, employers should withhold at 5% or add to the regular wages from the preceding payroll period, compute tax on the total, and subtract the tax withheld from regular wages.
- State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) -- The wage base for calculating state unemployment is $12,000.
Unemployment insurance rates range from 0.92% to 8.01%.
New employers are assigned an SUI rate of 1.53%.
Maine's SUI insurance rates do not include the new Competitive Skills Scholarship program tax of 0.05%.
